Once again I am a bit behind on my posting…this wedding was scheduled for last week! Between watching the (very sad) Virginia loss and the (exciting) Lehigh win in the NCAA basketball tournament and having a fun family visit to show them our new place in Alexandria, I have lost track of my posting. Apologies!
I love all the eclectic and quirky vintage details of this early fall wedding. Photographed by barebonephoto, Jennifer and Alexandre had a heartfelt ceremony and reception on September 11 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The couple incorporated many details resonant of their personalities and strong family connections. A color palette of pinks and purples pops against the rest of the neutral details. A few words from the bride:
“Two things we are not are traditional and superstitious. The first thing we did following the proposal was go look at the Fermenting Cellar. We didn’t want a long weekend wedding but we absolutely wanted September. We were then left with a single option as a date: September 11th. When we went to the Marriage License office to get our license, the attendant at the desk laughed that we showed up for this on none other than Friday the 13th. We told her immediately that superstition had gone out of the window and we were getting married on September 11th, got our license on Friday the 13th, and chose to do our bride and groom photo session BEFORE the ceremony. I have been obsessed with (mostly California based) wedding blogs, falling in love with the laid back, vintage, quirky, DIY styles. We tried to include as much of that as possible: the frames on the tree, a homemade photo booth, the place cards, and much more. Our French/English bilingual vows were important to us. My grandmother does not understand English and it was important to me that she understood the commitment and promises I was making. The significance of getting married in my parent’s backyard was important to me. I put my foot down a long time ago with Alex that I would not move in with him until we got married. The feeling of walking out of my parent’s house and my father carrying me straight from his care to Alex added that much more significance to the ceremony and the act of getting married.”
