Edgy Dark Purple + Gray Wedding in Tennessee

This wedding was held at such an amazing, industrial venue! Captured by Joe Hendricks Photography, Rebecca and Jason were married last September in a courtyard surrounded by brick buildings in Franklin, Tennessee. The couple’s even mixed industrial chic with edgy dark purple and gray accents as a nod to the wine cellar reception space. Be sure to read all about how the couple met, their proposal and wedding inspiration below!

A few words from the bride:

We met while playing on a co-ed soccer team in Michigan. Both of us are very competitive/athletic people who love soccer so it was very easy for our friendship to bloom through our love of sports. We did not start dating until 3 years after our first meeting! During the 3 years before we started dating, many friends would always tell us that we should be together. We would always just shrug it off!

On a cruise ship somewhere between Key West and Cozumel (we still debate whether we were in the US or Mexico when he proposed!) On our private balcony, Jay asked “Do you love me?” This is always something we jokingly ask each other. I thought he was playing around, and gave a joking answer back. He kept going and asked “Do you think you would want to spend forever with me?” I answered “yes” a little more seriously this time. Then he turned around to face me and was holding out the ring and asked me to marry him! With tears in my eyes, I just hugged him and said yes!

Our wedding date was September 22, 2012 (Jay’s soccer number is 9 and mine is 22!) We started off not really having a theme for the wedding. We knew we wanted the venue to feel like it was a lounge, instead of the traditional wedding hall. So we knew we wanted some axis chairs and benches around the venue. After we picked out Cellar One, we knew the colors we wanted, which would give the room a dark and romantic feel. We also knew that we wanted very few florals. The Randi Events ladies suggested that we use branches for some of the centerpieces, so we kind of developed a theme from that. We had branches on our invitations and save the dates, in the boutonnieres, and the gobo that lit up the dance floor.

We chose plum, slate/gray, and blush for a pop of color. We originally started planning my colors to be the traditional red, orange, yellow fall color scheme, but once we found Cellar One as our wedding venue, that all changed. This venue definitely has a wine cellar vibe to it, so we wanted to go with a dark purple hue that reminded us of the color of wine. Once we had the primary color picked out, we looked online, at the website called Snippet and Ink, to find complementary colors. Our splurge was the leather benches we rented to be near the bar. It definitely added to the décor, the lounge theme, and more seating. Also, our photographer (Joe Hendricks). Joe and his wife Rhonda do amazing work and it was soooooo worth it! To save money we did not rent a getaway car, since we had a very small wedding party. Also, the Cake Pops being out favors were the best value we found, and everyone raved about them! My dress from Spoiled Lady in Franklin, TN was something I felt was a great value. It was the first store I went too and I found the perfect dress! If we were doing it all over again, we would make sure our wedding was not on a day that had anything to do with football! Seriously, you have no idea how many people asked me if there was a TV in the venue. They would leave to go to the neighboring bar to watch the game and then come back!

My two top tips for other brides is 1.) Hire a wedding planner! Especially since both of us have full time jobs I am not sure we would have ever been able to finish planning without Sarah and the Randi Events team. 2.) When trying to describe what you want to vendors, showing pictures of what you want is a lot easier than trying to describe it in detail! I put together a photo collage of pictures I loved and sent it to Sarah, so she had a pretty good idea of the mood I was going for, the colors I wanted, and the things I loved!
