Amazing Blue Hawaiian + Swedish Wedding in Austin

This looks like such an amazing and fun wedding! Captured by Eclectic Images, Ingrid and Gunnar were married this past October in a gorgeous poolside ceremony in Austin, Texas. Ingrid, who is Swedish, and Gunnar, who is Hawaiian, found unique ways to incorporate their heritage throughout their wedding; from Swedish fish to Hawaiian leis! Beautiful shades of blue were used through all the decor and attire. Be sure to read about the couple’s inspiration for their wedding day and a little story of how the met below!

A few words from the bride:

Nearly all our friends and family had to travel to attend, and we dated long distance for a long time, so travel was definitely the theme. We started with our heritage: Ingrid is Swedish, Gunnar’s from Hawaii, and we wanted to show both of those cultures. Blue for the Swedish flag, green for the mountains on Oahu, and gott och blandat candy alongside kakimochi. This was best represented for us by the wedding cake, each tier of which was devoted to a city that we’d both lived in: New York, Washington, and Austin.

The highlight of the wedding were our officiants: Craig McCullough and Chris Grygo. Having two friends as officiants made it very meaningful. Also, they were hilarious.

We met because of our mutual friend Erica, who describes it best on her website:

“The sweetest from my perspective is that my friends Gunnar and Ingrid got engaged [on Valentine’s Day] after an intervention from their dog Rose, who ferried the ring between the two. I’ve been lucky enough to know both of these two for years and I’m proud to have played a minor causal role in their relationship by introducing them. Gunnar was in Austin for work, and I invited him to meet me at a holiday party across town, thinking while waiting for him to turn up that he and my darling friend Ingrid would get along, being similarly equipped with mischievous wit and devastatingly good bone structure. The sparks were apparent from the fact that while Ingrid was wearing a yeti hat when Gunnar arrived (as one does), Gunnar was shortly thereafter to be observed in the yeti costume in question. In fact, now that I’m thinking about it, although they’ve both shown a lot of love and courage over the past couple of years–having slogged through the unavoidable moments of loneliness and stress of what was once a long-distance relationship, and each having moved across the country for the other–I truly feel that I can take the lion’s share of the credit for the fact that the relationship came into being, and all the happiness that will attend. Congratulations, guys, and you’re welcome.”
