Playful + Stylish Day After Session in France

How adorable and stylish is today’s couple? Captured by Inge Kathleen Photography, My-Van and Ken spent a gorgeous summer day wandering the small town of St. Maximin in Provence, France for a beautiful day after session. The Canadian couple was married the day before in an intimate destination ceremony, surrounded by only five close friends. For their day after session, they wanted to contrast the rustic, historic architecture of the South of France with graphic, bold attire. The result is stunning! Be sure to read about how the couple met, and their wedding and day after inspiration below. Also, check out My-Van’s blog! A few words from the bride:

Ken and I met in Paris, France. We were both backpacking through Europe at the time. I almost didn’t want to meet him and his friends, but when I heard they were from Vancouver, Canada, I just couldn’t ignore my neighbors! (I’m originally from Seattle, USA.) As Ken and I didn’t share the same hometown, we maintained a long-distance relationship for a couple of years before he proposed and I made the decision to move to Canada.

As I’ve always wanted to get married in a field of lavenders, it was easier to narrow our venue search. We chose to return to France, the country that brought us together, to get married. Our ceremony was an intimate one in the South of France. We didn’t invite any of our friends or family as we wanted to exchange our vows in (near) privacy. Our wedding party of five included Ken’s best man, my man of honor, our officiant, the videographer, and the photographer. All present were close friends of ours.

I created the wedding ceremony to reflect so much of a Provencal country feel that when it came time to the post-wedding photos, I wanted to do something completely different. As soon as we arrived in the tiny village just outside of Avignon (where we called home for a week), Inge and I knew that this would be the backdrop to our photos. I loved the contrast of doing a modern/rustic shoot. I wanted my and Ken’s outfits to be graphic and interesting without overpowering our personalities or the setting. It was my intent to model our photo shoot after a magazine fashion spread – something that would be very editorial and visual, but neither Ken nor I are models and we did the best we could conjuring up the poses that we did. Haha. One of the charming things that make up Provence is the abundance of painted doors and window shutters in bright pastel colors. Taking advantage of these elements as our background provided the color we needed to really jazz up the images.
