Romantic Valentine’s Day Surprise Proposal in Kentucky

I thought I would share a bit of pure romance to carry you through the weekend! Captured by Lauren W Photography, Megan and her boyfriend, Taylor, walked into a room lit solely by 350 tea light candles on a snowy Valentine’s Day in Louisville, Kentucky. When the pair reached the center, Taylor knelt down in a ring of candles and asked Megan to be his wife. The surprise event took a bit more planning than one would initially realize. Read more from the photographer (Megan’s sister-in-law!) below:

I was so excited when my husband told me that Megan’s boyfriend, Taylor, was planning to propose and that he wanted me to photograph it while my husband played his guitar and sang City and Colour. Taylor had planned for his parents to come in from Texas and for Megan’s parents to come down from Northern Kentucky. The only thing he didn’t plan on was a torrential downpour. When I realized it would not only be raining, but dark and freezing in the beautiful park he had originally planned on I had to get involved.

I made a million calls and finally got in touch with a contact from a previous wedding at The Foundry at Glassworks, they are so amazing and let us in only a couple hours before he planned to propose. I set up the candles, my in-laws helped me light them, and my husband’s voice and guitar sounded incredible in the open space. The rest was like a movie.

A story of the proposal from the bride-to-be:

My proposal was as truly romantic as the pictures make it appear to be. I was meeting my family for “appetizers” when we walked into a room lit with nothing but 350 candles and one dimmed light in the center of the room. I looked at him and he had the biggest smile on his face as he took my hand and led me out to the center of the room.

Taylor proposed to me with the ring that my grandpa proposed to my grandma with almost 60 years ago. It is the most beautiful and sentimental thing that I have ever owned. My whole family was involved in this proposal. My brother was playing and singing our song as we walked through the door. Both sets of parents were watching us with smiles and eyes filled with tears of joy. My beautiful sister-in-law was taking photographs so that we could cherish this special occasion with pictures for the rest of our lives.

It was the most wonderful, precious moment to be able to share this with the ones that we love most. It also meant a lot to us to have our parents there. Usually parents do not get to witness the actual proposal but Taylor knew how much it would mean to me to have them there. My whole life my parents prayed over the man God had set aside for me and I knew Taylor was the man they had been praying for my entire life. I am so thankful and blessed they were able to watch the man of my dreams get on one knee. I feel like the luckiest lady in the world and I am so blessed to have a man who loves me the way Taylor does.

Surprise Proposal: Brittany + Kurt in Central Park

This surprise proposal is so sweet and genuine! Kurt contacted Dina of Sam and Gertie Photography to document his surprise proposal to Brittany, his girlfriend of six and a half years. The couple recently moved to New York City so Brittany could attend graduate school at NYU. Since Brittany is a writer, Kurt proposed on the literary walk in Central Park near the sculptures of Shakespeare, Robert Burns, and other great writers. Dina started snapping photos as soon as the couple was in sight, and Brittany had the cutest reaction when Kurt made her aware of the Dina’s presence! Following the proposal, the trio wandered around the park for a few more engagement images.

Real Engagement / Proposal: Laura + Tim in California

What a beautiful setting for a surprise proposal!! Captured by Lindsey Gomes Photography, Laura and Tim headed to Pismo State Beach in California for their annual Christmas card photo shoot with their adorable dogs. Little did Laura know, Tim had contacted Lindsey weeks earlier to let her know that he planned to propose to Laura during the session. He had a custom ring made, and when they found a spot with gorgeous light streaming through the tangled trees, Tim got down on one knee and popped the question. Laura said yes! The couple has an amazing set of images to remember this very special moment in their lives. Also, be sure to take a look at the video by Trevor Gomes (the photographer’s husband) at the end of this post and read about the experience from the bride to be.
