Chic Spring Wedding in Manhattan

I love the use of cherry blossoms in this gorgeous springtime wedding! Captured by Alex Z Photography, Kristy and David were married under a stunning cherry blossom chuppah in Manhattan on a perfect April day. A soft color palette of pale pinks and purples was used throughout the attire and decor of this chic event. I absolutely adore Kristy’s dramatic Vera Wang gown; such a timeless, yet modern bride. From the bride on how she and David met and their wedding day inspiration:

David and I had a few, I guess you could call them “bumps”, on the way to celebrating our big day. First, a little history…Our first date took place at the Westside Tavern in New York on January, 28, 2011. After the first hour of conversation, I knew that he was someone special and we both quickly fell in love in the weeks that followed. A year and a half later on June 9, 2012 he proposed to me at one of his favorite spots in Central Park. However, this wasn’t the first time he popped the question. A few months earlier during a trip to Italy, we decided to elope. We purchased our wedding bands in Venice and traveled to a small village 2 hours outside of Florence for a commitment ceremony. Giuseppe, the man we found over the Internet to perform the ceremony, never showed up. We decided that it wasn’t meant to be and when we returned to NYC where we would go the more traditional route.

I grew up in Syracuse, NY and David in Manhattan. I have always had so much love for the city and always dreamed of a big city wedding, so the location wasn’t really a question. We settled on a date and then a venue, Bridge-waters, in the South Street Seaport. I loved the views of the water and less traditional ballroom wedding feel of the space. Here comes the big bump…Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Sandy and the damage to the Seaport, 2 months before our big day the venue called to say that they would not be open in time for our wedding. The invitations were due to go out the following week and we were left with no venue and 150 beautiful letter pressed invitations with the wrong location. We were devastated to say the least. After calling every wedding venue in NYC only to hear “we are booked for that day, have you considered an alternate date or maybe a Sunday brunch?”, the situation seemed hopeless. We placed one more call to The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers and were so excited when they told us they were open for April 6th. In fact, the Lighthouse had always been my dream wedding venue, unfortunately, it was outside of my budget when we were originally planning the event. When we explained to the team at the Lighthouse our predicament they agreed to do the event at the same cost as Bridge-waters.

Our wedding day was perfect in every way. We had beautiful weather and as the sun set over the Hudson river, David and I said our vows to each other under a cherry blossom chuppah, another dream come true. It was a truly special evening, and one that I will never forget. We might have had a few “bumps” along the way, but when I look back on the experience, I would not have changed a thing.

I would like to thank my husband, David. He is very shy and probably would have preferred a city hall style affair. He was such a good sport! I am very lucky to have such a wonderful and caring husband.
