I adore the mini pumpkin centerpieces in today’s stunning fall wedding! Captured by Procopio Photography, Deborah and Jason were married at the gorgeous Ronald Reagan Building in Washington DC on a crisp October day. A few words from the bride:
Deborah and Jason were brought together by Judaism’s modern online community: J-Date. Each of them had been on many J-Dates before, but were still searching for their match as singles in Houston. Deborah saw Jason’s profile: the new pediatrician in town who had recently moved from DC. She sent him an e-mail saying she’d be happy to show him around. It started with a coffee date, where they talked for hours about politics, healthcare, and NPR. Soon enough, they shared their first kiss on the grassy lawn of a Houston outdoor theater. They have grown together, sharing friends, family, memories, museums, trips, and, of course, food.
We loved having our nation’s capital as a backdrop for our special day. Having both come into our own in DC independently (yet ultimately meeting in Texas), we wanted to come back to the city that we both love to celebrate together. We describe our wedding as, “Fall in DC”. Our decor represented the bride’s favorite season, but with a modern twist: swapping oranges, reds, and yellows for her more preferred color palate of silvers, blues, and grays. We were happy to accomplish all of this while staying true to our Jewish heritage with traditional ketubah and chuppah ceremonies. The centerpiece of the ceremony was the chuppah, a fall wedding canopy of birch trees, pumpkins, and flowering branches interwoven with the traditional tallit (prayer shawls) from the bride’s grandfather and groom’s great grandfather. Highlights of the reception included a step-and-repeat photo booth to capture our guests as DC’s who’s who as well as a late night snack surprise of chocolate milk shakes and nachos (the groom’s favorite). Jason and Deborah chose signature cocktails representing their home towns, the Coral Springs “Cuba” Libre and the Austin Champagne Rita. Deborah and Jason (and their wedding coordinator) worked hard to ensure that their wedding represented them as a couple and that their guests had as much fun as they did.
